Location Tracking Disclosure
Last Updated: March 16, 2026
Local Motion uses precise location data to calculate mileage, determine eligibility, and operate Campaigns. This disclosure describes how location tracking works.
1. Background & Foreground Collection
- Foreground Tracking: When tracking is enabled, the app collects location periodically (approximately every 30 seconds) to compute mileage and eligibility.
- Background Tracking: When permitted, the app collects location in the background using system location services (e.g., time‑based and distance‑based updates such as ~60 seconds or ~25 meters).
- Indicators: On supported devices, a background location indicator and/or notification may be shown while tracking is active.
2. Data Collected
- Latitude/longitude, timestamps, and accuracy.
- Speed and inferred “driving” status.
- Target‑zone status (e.g., within geofences or ZIP‑based target areas).
- Home‑radius status (inside or outside the configured radius).
3. How We Use Location Data
- Eligibility: Determine Eligible Miles and enforce home‑radius and Campaign‑window rules.
- Home Radius Rule: As of this Last Updated date, the default home-radius eligibility threshold is 20 miles from the residential address on file unless a Campaign or Platform setting specifies otherwise.
- Target Zones: Determine whether miles fall within Campaign target areas (geofence or ZIP).
- Fraud Prevention: Detect anomalous or suspicious location patterns.
- Analytics: Generate mileage summaries, statements, and performance metrics.
- Route Analytics: Create downsampled route previews and aggregated analytics for Campaign reporting; where shared with Businesses, data is de‑identified or pseudonymous.
4. Reverse Geocoding
For ZIP‑based target areas, the app may perform reverse geocoding on device to determine a postal code for eligibility matching.
5. Permissions & Impact
If you disable location permissions or background tracking, the Platform may be unable to record Eligible Miles and your participation may be limited or suspended.
